Dear all,
To begin with, I would like to congratulate you on being accepted to King’s College
London, one of the world’s finest institutions and to its Law school, one of the oldest and
most highly esteemed law schools in the United Kingdom. I would also like to welcome
you both as the President of the Law Society and as a fellow student.
The King’s College London Law Society is run for students by students Our committee is
devoted to guiding you through your studies , we are here to enhance your student
experience by organising a wide variety of events.
The main function of the society is to provide you with valuable information about careers
in law, organise networking events and most importantly, provide you with advice. The
best and most interesting way to learn about careers in law is by attending one of the
numerous vocational events. Furthermore we are keen on giving advice to any members
of our society who are looking to pursue alternative legal and non-legal careers or
post-graduate study.
Of course, embarking upon 'student life' is also a learning process and one that requires
community spirit and social interaction. By organising and subsidising a great degree of
social events, we provide you with an opportunity to interact with other like-minded
people in an atmosphere that escapes the strictures of your degree. We know how to do
this better than any other university society. KCL Law Society is famous for its exclusive
and prestigious parties at the most exquisite and celebrity popular venues in London.
We also cater for your extra-curricular needs by providing you with debating and mooting
opportunities. I strongly advice you to participate in such activities, since they help you
gain valuable skills that enhance your CV. Finally, we have a strong tradition in sports,
competing against our rival London law schools and we also organise friendly games
with law firm teams in a relaxed environment.
As a fellow student, I encourage you to take heed of the above and, more than anything,
to enjoy your time at King's. So, get excited and get active: the Law Society calendar is
already full with a wide range of events. I am looking forward to meeting you and
welcoming you to one of the most vibrant college societies in the nation.

Firstly I would like to congratulate and welcome you on your acceptance and entry
into Kings College London. I hope you will enjoy your first year as much as I did,
and take full advantage of the opportunities that are available to you. I would strongly
encourage you to join the KCL Law Society as it presents students with many
opportunities to get involved in university life and to build contacts and skills for
your future careers.
Due to the recession a legal career is even more competitive than before but
involvement in extra-curricular activities will not only be enjoyable but will add
that little something extra to your CV. The KCL Law Society provides vocational
events with law firms, debating tournaments, sports matches with law firms and
social events with your fellow students in the most prestigious clubs in London
culminating with the Law Ball in March.
Advantages of joining the society are discounted tickets to our social events and
complimentary attendance and participation in all of the other events that we
organise.
As Vice-President of the Society I work closely with the president to ensure that
the society runs in a smooth and effective manner. Together we meet with law
firms to obtain sponsorship for the society, and furthermore to maintain and
strengthen relationships with firms, as well as creating new ones. My other roles
include compiling this booklet, arranging the annual book sale, organising the
Fresher's Fair, and providing assistance to any other committee members where
necessary.
I hope you will enjoy your time here at King's College London, if you have any
further questions please contact me.
I look forward to seeing you all at the Fresher’s Fair in September.

invaluable insight into the competitive legal profession. Throughout the academic
year a multitude of events ranging from talks to workshops will be hosted, presenting

can speak to representatives from a variety of city law firms and barrister’s chambers.

The Law Society works as a primary stepping stone to integrate students into the legal
profession. As social secretary my role is to organize and offer to you, some truly
enjoyable law social events throughout the academic year. The law society is
renowned for hosting some of most exclusive society events in a number of the city’s
most glamourous venues. Our events are sponsored by various major corporate law
firms providing those who attend with an excellent opportunity to network with legal
professionals in a relaxed social environment. The parties provide a welcome break
away from the books for students to let loose with their peers and have an all round
good night out. Therefore, I encourage you all to make the most of the brilliant events
we will be holding this year, from the fun filled fresher’s party to the elegant end of
year ball and I look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events!

Rachita Bhagnani
Debates and Moots Officer
rachita.bhagnani@kcl.ac.uk

Discover, develop, and hone the skills that are integral to an education in the law –
engage in the debating and mooting activities organized by the Law Society! Each
activity varies in style, but the techniques of how to analyse deftly, argue persuasively
and speak articulately are key to both - as well as to your future careers in the law and
elsewhere. More importantly, you will find the challenge of mastering these skills to be
a rewarding and enjoyable experience.
As the Debates and Moots Officer for this year’s committee, I will be organising a
range of these events designed for students of all years, and I’d particularly encourage
first years to take the opportunity to gain from all the Society has to offer. Finally,
know that I am here to help with any queries and will be happy to hear from you!

Jonathan Yeo
Sports Officer
jonathan.yeo@kcl.ac.uk
|
My role as Sports Officer is to organise competitive sporting events matched by an
exciting social scene to benefit both players and supporters. The key aim is to
introduce members of the law society to law firms and other law students in an
informal atmosphere either on the pitch, the sidelines or in the bar after the games.
I will concentrate on organising Rugby, Football and Netball teams within the
society to play in a host of exciting events planned. However, if you wish to suggest
or even assist with the organisation of other sports do not hesitate to contact me.
We participate in competitive sports events chiefly against our UCL rivals. In
addition to this I hope to organise games directly with law firm sport teams.
This will be hugely advantageous in acquiring some personal contact with members
of city firms and they may even interview you one day so it will give you something
to talk about providing that you don’t punch any of them!
I will be looking for team members and leaders from the beginning of the term, so
please let me know if you want to play some competitive and fun sport this year as
soon as possible so training and fixtures can be arranged. The more numbers we get
the better so don’t worry if you haven’t played in a few years and are a bit rusty,
please let me know if you are keen to play. Even if you don’t play please come down
to support the events, after all they are really fun and you might be able to get some
tips for job applications.
I look forward to seeing you throughout the year.

KCLLS is one of the societies with the most financial resources. As you may know,
various law firms sponsor us generously for numerous events.
My role is to make the best use of the funds by prudent financial planning for future
events, as well as pragmatic financial controlling throughout the year.
I aim to ensure that the money is spent at the right place to avoid being sued by the
members of KCLLS, who are all potential lawyers!

Firstly, it must be said that being a part of the Law Society is a great way to interact
with your new peers and also to make that smooth transition into university life.
My role as Secretary involves a variety of different tasks from helping new members
integrate into the law society at the beginning of the year to making sure you are
updated regularly throughout the course of the year with regards to new information
about the Society.
Part of my job also entails organising Hustings for the election of next year’s
Committee as well as arranging the selection of a First Year Representative who will
act as a direct line of communication between First year students and the Law Society.
However, feel free to contact me directly with any queries you may have.
I really hope you take advantage of all the Law Society has to offer and hope you
have a great year!

Jack Browne
Undergraduate Representative
jack.browne@kcl.ac.uk
|
My role as First Year Law Representative will be to act as an ambassador between all of the first years and the Law society. I will also be there to listen to any of your questions concerning the Law Society and convey any of your ideas to the committee members. I will also endeavour to keep everyone up to date with any events, socials or workshops that are organised by the Law Society and attempt to make an appearance to these events as often as possible. I will also make myself as available as possible to any of you who want to talk to another first year about work, university or anything in general as it would be great to meet as many of you as possible.
As a fellow first year I am going through the same transition as all of you and so I hope that I can in some way attempt to make that transition as little bit easier for all of us.

The postgraduate representative should be just that, a representative of the postgrad community who can ensure the concerns of this important student body are addressed accordingly.
