Jack Browne, President
Dear all,
As a fellow student, I would like to congratulate you on gaining a place to study Law at King’s College London. The university continues to retain its ranking as a top 25 global institution, and the Law School is one of the oldest and consistently cited as one of the most highly esteemed Law Schools in the United Kingdom. It is therefore already a tremendous achievement having obtained a place of study here, and promises success in securing a lucrative career, whether it be legal or non-legal, in the future.
The university recently acquired the east wing of Somerset House, and thus you are joining us at a very exciting time for law students, and the pinnacle of a 180 year struggle for King’s. This magnificent and historic building has been destined to become the new home of the Law School and thus you are sure to benefit from the added prestige synonymous with this impressive expansion project. The acquisition not only conveys the university’s commitment in ensuring the continued dominance of the Law School at the top of league tables; but also guarantees a future study environment comparable to that of other leading global institutions.
The King’s College London Law Society is operated by students for students. As a committee, we are devoted to guiding you through your studies and also aim to enhance your student experience. Being a part of one of King’s College London’s biggest, and most successful societies, ensures an unparalleled opportunity to benefit from your time at university. The Law Society organises a vast variety of different events throughout the year in our attempt to cater to as many of you as possible. The Law Society’s social events are the envy of every other society as we as lawyers are infamous for our superb parties at the most exclusive of London venues. Debating and mooting offers a fantastic means to improve public speaking skills and to try something new. Our vocational events ensure that our students have access to the highest quality information regarding careers from the leading global law firms. Finally, the sporting opportunities organised against our rival London Law Schools, provide a platform to meet other like-minded students and to excel, not only at an academic level.
On the other hand, we are also here to offer you advice, whether or not you envisage a legal career at the end of your degree. Embarking on ‘student life’ is a learning process in itself and is without doubt an extremely daunting experience. It is therefore our aim to guide you through this stage of your education while continuing to provide opportunities to interact with other students in an atmosphere that escapes the strictures of your degree. It is now down to you to be proactive and get involved; the Law Society calendar is already full with a wide range of workshops and events. I am very much looking forward to welcoming you to one of the most vibrant and well established societies in the nation. ...
