John Mathew, Master of Moots and Debating

Mooting and debating are considered essential skills in any career path and even more so in the legal sphere. Most law firms see mooting and debating as a fundamental prerequisite to joining the legal career. As the debating and mooting officer I am responsible for promoting and encouraging debating and mooting among law students at King’s.

We provide regular opportunities for students to compete not only against fellow King's lawyers but also law students from other universities and the Inns of Court. This year we are hoping to increase the number of opportunities for beginners to gain first hand experience in a mooting competition providing them with a platform to participate in external mooting competitions.

Apart from organising competitive events we also organise training events with professionals to improve your debating and mooting skills. We also organise events in conjunction with the King’s Debating Society to give law students more opportunities and exposure to debating. The Law Society will keep you informed of such events and opportunities throughout the year, however if you are interested in debating/mooting or have any questions, then please feel free to send me an e-mail.
