Dear Students,

My name is Tom Millington and I will be your Sports Officer for 2011/12. Firstly I would like to congratulate you upon gaining acceptance to one of the world’s most prestigious institutes of education. Your degree will give you a brilliant platform to enter careers in the upper echelon Law Firms and Barrister Inns. Unfortunately, long-gone are the days where academic prowess alone was sufficient to succeed in the competitive scramble to obtain vacation schemes and training contracts. Such companies look for the ability to be a proactive team member, to have a high affinity for social events and to be able to interact comfortably and confidently with potential clients. These are all transferable skills that can be gained from sporting activities. In this upcoming year I will be seek to utilise the medium of sport to help develop a truly collegiate atmosphere within the law student body, whilst providing great opportunities to network with potential future employers. The sporting events will mainly revolve around the central sports of rugby, football and netball, although we are already looking into expanding the range of sports in order to cater for different interests. Ultimately the Law Society sporting calendar will climax in the varsity matches against the University College London Law Society which serves not only to provide a high quality competitive event but also a great spectacle for non-competing members. Thus I urge you to take advantage of the wonderful opportunities that the King’s College Law Society will offer you. If you have any questions with regard to sport within the King’s College Law Society or simply with starting law at King’s, please do not hesitate to contact me via the following email: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
