Fresher’s Drinks (21st September, Knights Templar) -
The drinks are held at the Knights Templar, which is the pub exactly opposite the Maughan Library a few minutes walk away from the Strand Campus. This is the first event put on by the Law Society, and is a great opportunity to get to meet the Committee and find out what the Law Society is all about. Being on the evening of induction, this is the perfect chance to meet fellow lawyers, and – being a Wednesday – start the night with free drinks sponsored by BPP before we move the night down to the typical King’s hangout: Walkabout!
Welcome Fair (22 – 23 September, Barbican Exhibition Hall 2) -
The King’s College London Students’ Union (KCLSU) Annual Welcome Fair collects all the College’s societies under a single roof in a huge event that lasts two days. It is a massive event, starting in the morning and lasting until late, so you should make a day of it and come with friends. This is an opportunity to sign up to the Law Society, and also to buy tickets for our Freshers’ Party! It would be ideal to arrive at the Law Society’s stand early, so as not to miss the chance to pick up your very own Herbert Smith goody bag. You can make joining faster by filling in the attached membership form from before and bringing it to the Fair. Remember that quite a few societies charge for membership, so make sure to bring enough money to cover you for the day.
Fresher’s Party (October 3rd, funkybuddha) -
The Freshers’ Party is a great opportunity to experience the luxurious aspect of the London nightlife. Held at funkybuddha in exclusive Mayfair, this is definitely a night not to be missed, and a chance to party away to great music and free drinks. This event is heavily sponsored by the magic circle law firm Allen & Overy, and so this is also an opportunity to meet representatives of the firm who also attend the event. This is a party put on with the idea for you to meet even more fellow law students, but all our events are open to anyone, so feel free to bring your friends along!
Pub Crawl (October 19th) -
This is just another event to get the law students together for a chance to mingle even more, at this stage where you are a little less freshers than before. It is also a chance to begin preparing for that long bus ride to Paris that follows just a few weeks later! Details of the night will be sent out later, but one thing is certain – we will end up at Walkabout, yet again.
Christmas Party (December 5th, Whisky Mist) -
The Law Society hosts a Christmas Party – largely sponsored by Field Fisher Waterhouse LLP so expect free drinks – to celebrate the end of the first term at King’s. It is essentially an excuse to get everyone together before the holidays, and this year it is held at the amazing Whisky Mist in Mayfair! You could go all out for the evening and visit the Windows bar on the 28th floor of the Hilton for a drink before moving to the ground floor to begin the party. Again, there will be more details sent out nearer to the event, but as a heads up the theme is James Bond – so make sure you rock up in appropriate attire and order martinis.
The Annual Linklater’s Law Ball (March 3rd, Old Royal Naval College) -
The year concludes with the Annual Ball – an event where we spare no expense. This year it will be held at the Old Royal Naval College – not just where Henry VIII and Elizabeth I were born, but also one of the main filming sites for the most recent Pirates of the Carribean film! The evening begins with a champagne reception, and is followed by a dinner and a dance in the same venue. Details and surprises of the evening will be available nearer to the event, but rest assured that this is one of those nights where London’s glamorous finer side is on show.
